Testosterone Is A Female Hormone
In order to create estrogens, first women must make testosterone which is then converted to estrogens.
In order to create estrogens, first women must make testosterone which is then converted to estrogens. As women age, their testosterone levels decrease and consequently so does their muscle mass. It is not a coincidence that as women age their belly fat increases. A recent randomized controlled trial published in Menopause concluded that testosterone has a direct effect on sexual function, body composition, muscle performance, and physical function. Simply put, testosterone is a female hormone. As our ovarian function declines our testosterone levels fall and we gain fat. We lose our motivation, libido, and our self-confidence and many feel indifferent and/or depressed. I have recognized this pattern for years which is why I always investigate a women’s testosterone level as she approaches or enters menopause. If your testosterone level is low you would benefit from transdermal ( across the skin) testosterone replacement.
